I love lilacs. So many of my childhood memories are associated with the fragrant flower. My grandmother's brick farm house was surrounded with large old bushes. My parents had a few in the back corner of their lot, and my children gave me a bush of mauve lilacs for mothers day one year. I pick a bunch every spring and display them in the kitchen ... not for too long as they never last once cut... but I enjoy the spring scent as long as I can.
Here I am applying a layer of colour to prepare my under-painting.
The lilacs, in the sun have a bright pink highlight to them. My intention is to paint over this colour with the purple tones of the flowers, but leave little bits of this pink colour to act as highlight.
It will all come together... you'll see.
I will update you with the progress... but until then... happy painting!!
